TWO YEARS OF OUTREACH,
AND A BETTER FUTURE
HOW DID WE GET WE GET HERE?
Completed in early 2018, #BelltownPossible is the product of 24 months of listening to over 2,000 Belltown stakeholders from all walks of life, which is close to 10% of all stakeholders in Belltown. We talked to renters and homeowners, employers and employees, developers and preservationists, property owners, non-profits, and those on our streets and in our shelters.
With support from private contributions and from the Office of Economic Development, we conducted over 200 one-on-one meetings, hosted or attended over 50 community meetings, and generated over 2,500 hours of public engagement with the planning process. We also received 222 specific written comments on community challenges and opportunities.
Today, Rise Up Belltown is focused specifically on keeping our local communities, as our employees and artists, our musicians and businesses, and all our most vulnerable populations, are increasingly pushed out by skyrocketing prices. (You can take action here.)
Yet our work is still rooted in that years-long outreach, and we continue to believe that #BelltownPossible represents a holistic approach to building a strong, inclusive, interesting, and resilient community.
In 2019, Rise Up launched it's proposal to save and support Belltown, as a campaign for the Seattle Community and Affordability Network. This plan would save what's special, save and create affordable spaces,
